Session with the presence of João Botelho
Two visions of the skies of Lisbon, separated for almost sixty years, and two films where cinema serves to make the connection between Earth and Air. In autumn sky, the pioneer of cinema Manuel Luiz Vieira makes an ode to the clouds and light of the city, while we watch the passage of the day and the transformations and reflexes, with nothing to see or know from a city then already capital of a dictatorship. Movie-Denio on the Border of the Experimental, serves as a motto for a session designed and worked with students from the high school professional schools, associated with the project to promote the filmmaker's Film Literacy, Filmschool, that all the last Saturdays of the month, find the younger audiences and not just to talk about what cinema can bring to our days. On the day of my years was the contribution of João Botelho to the series “The Four Elements”, produced by Paulo Branco to RTP and Canal Arte, in which Joaquim Pinto also participated (from Tripas Heart), João César Monteiro (the last dive) and João Mário Grilo (the end of the world). Botelho's episode was dedicated to the air element, around which, sometimes in Philigon, games of significance on both the physical and metaphorical dimension (ether, the indefinable, the empty space, the sky, the claustrophobia, the absence). Built as a puzzle of scenes of various elements of a disaggregated family (of which the father is in prison), evolves by the accumulation of episodes guided by the eye of childhood, among which circulates a kind of contained harmony. Discreetly jubilatory, they contain the larger marks of João Botelho, both from a plastic and narrative point of view.
Integrated in the Journée International des Nuages, Mathieu Simonet's poetic-political project, in collaboration with the Institute for Social Development and the Metropolitan Professional School, and the support of the Bilateral Eeagrants 2020-2024 Bilateral Cooperation Program.
