The exhibition Six postcards presents a number of works and reactions of authors, connected with Jolana Havelková's call for any reflection on donated postcards with an imperfectly printed motif of her work. The project is the result of a long-term activity (since 1995), in which she donated six of these prints to artists, theorists, curators, students, but also to the author's friends, neighbors and random acquaintances. In this way, she initiated the creation of many works – photographs, collages, assemblages, drawings, graphics, paintings, embroideries, objects, musical scores, poems or sound recordings. Sometimes the postcard appears directly in the works, other times it is encoded into a new artifact. However, the collection also includes various notes and texts.
What can fascinate us about this collection is not only the diverse authorial approach of the people addressed, but also the ability to connect them in a seriously thought-out game. The mail-art nature of the project opens up, for example, topics of artistic collaboration, forms and functions of communication, appropriation, participation or recycling. The collection was presented for the first time in the Postal Museum in Prague (2019), two years later in the House of Gentlemen from the Arts in Brno (in collaboration with Denisa Sedláková and Terezia Petišková). It subsequently grew to include a number of other visual, textual and musical responses. In the Fine Arts Archive, new additions will be presented together with some older works. The exhibition thus tries to show the diversity of the collection of Six Postcards.
The exhibition will last from October 24, 2024 to January 7, 2025
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
