SHABAKA

This year Shabaka released a very special album, Perceive its Beauty, Acknowledge its Grace, which represents, he himself said, "a return to origins." Far from the instrument with which he became known with two bands that became the standards of British jazz throughout the world, Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming, Shabaka – who no longer uses his last name, Hutchings – proposes a journey introspective and spiritual from various flutes (from the Japanese shakuhachi to the Andean quenas to the Slavic svires) and the clarinet, his first instrument. The result is an album and a live show that have been compared to references such as John and Alice Coltrane by its meditative intensity (helped by the two harps that play with him). "Shabaka's ambitions are clearly beyond genre, but he's also still a jazz guy," wrote Evan Haga in Spin about the album. Can you come with us?
