Sinfonia concertante

Amsterdam Sinfonietta performs Mozart's dramatic Sinfonia concertante together with violinist Antje Weithaas and violist Georgy Kovalev. Dvořák's beloved Serenade for Strings will also be heard. Widman's theatrical Jagdquartett, the title taken from one of Mozart's string quartets, requires dramatic flair from the musicians. Imagine a chase that ends in the cellist's demise. Father Leopold persuaded Mozart to write Sinfonia concertante and to make this genre his own, because the audience loved the spectacular rivalry between the different soloists. Mozart created a profound and lively interaction between the soloists and the orchestra.

Dvořák's Serenade for Strings is one of the most important pieces in the string orchestra repertoire and is loved for its rich melodies and graceful atmosphere, full of Slavic zest and characteristic rhythms.
