Singelkerkconcert: Amsterdam Klezmer Band

September 21: Amsterdam Klezmer Band
The Amsterdam Klezmer Band (AKB) combines its roots from both the street and the conservatory and plays an energetic mix of Klezmer, Balkans, Ska, Jazz, Gipsy, Oriental music and hip hop. With more than 28 years of experience, the band has positioned itself as an internationally renowned seven -headed Klezmerfenomenon. Their music is innovative, where rap, electronics and saxophone are combined with traditional klezmer.

The AKB has played at large festivals such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz and Sziget and in prestigious halls such as the Concertgebouw and the De la Musique. Their mission is simple: celebrating life through music, without a distinction of background or politics.

With the establishment of the Amsterdam Klezmer Academy in 2023, the band now shares its knowledge of Balkan and Klezmer music through educational videos and teaching materials. Their latest album, Bomba Pop, from 2024, is a collaboration with DJ producer Ulf Lindemann (Dunkelbunt), which mixes world music with klezmer. After almost three decades, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band continues to innovate and inspire, and works on new music, live shows and the preservation of the Klezmer tradition. Maps
