Discussions and lectures

About event

Fresh Fruit cordially invites you to lectures and discussions within the SINGULARCH project – a series of informal meetings focused on young and high-quality architecture. Lectures and discussions present unique practices and projects from local and foreign studios. You can find more information at www.singularch.sk.

For the November lecture, which will take place on Thursday 21 November 2024 in the former boiler room of the Faculty of Architecture of STU, the office from Ghent, known for its unique pragmatic approach, accepted the invitation. Their method of systematically deconstructing the existing context and transforming it into a new reality has become an inexhaustible source of inspiration that brings new interpretations of architecture.

Local guests from Prague will bring a new generation of approach to pragmatism to the discussion. Their practice, shaped by joint work since their student days and pedagogical experiences on various European scenes, is characterized by exceptional spatial solutions with a playful and precise composition of detail and material quality. Anna Svobodová and Ondřej Blaha create works that find poetic charm in austerity and rawness. In their work, they avoid mainstream conventions and consistently explore space and its in-depth representation.

The lectures are part of the KUUMŠT event – the festival of cultural and artistic students.
A week full of cultural content that broadens the horizons of students as well to the public, opens up an insight into the artistic environment and creates a foundation for new relationships independent of university affiliation or department.

⚫ freedom bliss | Anna Svobodová, Ondřej Blaha - https://svobodovablaha.com

"We are a studio that is not focused on any specific assignment or typology - we try to develop and implement projects with an awareness of current topics and references, while creatively reacting to specific constraints, the individuality of the client and the specifics of the given context. From the point of view of the architect's work leading to implementation, in addition to the obvious task of absolute fulfillment of the assignment, we consider the legible authorship of proposals and solutions to be essential, which inevitably implies taking responsibility for one's work."

Anna Svobodová and Ondřej Blaha are graduates. Schools of architecture at AVU and the Faculty of Architecture in Prague and architects with work and teaching experience at Miroslav Šik (AVU), but also abroad, especially in Munich, Germany at Almnannai Fischer (TUM). They deserve many high-quality renovations of apartments, realization of family houses, multiple firsts in architectural competitions, such as in the project School Campus Mníchovo Hradiště, in the design of a kindergarten in Prague 3, or in the reconstruction of the cultural center in Postřekov.

"We are definitely each other's rivals, competitors. Most of the time, we compete with each other to see who comes up with a better solution. Neither of us want to be left behind. The proposal must be from both of us, and it happens in the form of an internal competition rather than a concession. There is some friction between us, but it leads to a vital dialogue through which we both move. In designing, we work completely equally, we do not have divided roles. We interweave sketches, we take variants from one another."
