Hi all! In October in Delft we will discuss **Susan Sontag's book On Women.**

Susan Sontag is an American writer and essayist, one of the main intellectuals of the 20th century. She wrote about culture, art, politics and media.

Sontag was not only interested in themes of female identity. She explored how photography changes our perception, how ideology hides behind aesthetics, and how language shapes ideas about illness and suffering. Her notable books include On Photography and Illness as Metaphor.

The book “On Women” is a collection of essays and articles written by Sontag over the years. In them, she reflects on the double standard of aging, women's sexual validity, women's relationships with each other, the connection of the women's movement with other revolutionary processes, the self-oppression of women, the functioning of beauty ideals, the eroticization of fascism and the plurality of feminist positions.

Each essay is a separate topic for conversation. Even if you don't read the whole book, you will still have something to discuss.

At the meeting we will talk about how these ideas sound today - and what they can mean for us.
