About event
A colorful celebration about death - and life!
In Mexico they believe that the souls of the deceased come back to the world of the living world once a year. During Día de Los Muertos, streets are decorated with flowers, candles and skeletons, and there is music and laughter everywhere. It is a party full of memories in which sorrow and joy go hand in hand. A performance in which loss and memories come to life. For everyone - large, small, meaty or bone - from 5 years.
In Skeletje we follow two players who make a journey between life and death. With slapstick, music, and a touch of magic, they build a colorful memorial place full of stories and memories. The show takes you into a world where nothing is what it seems: changes to altarts, flowers grow from nowhere, and skeletons dance cheerfully through the space. What starts as an empty theater, fills with flowers, flags, candles and cheerful memories. The grief may be there, but the party too. A bustling ode to life!
Big people, in co-production with Maas Theater and Dance, brings this celebration to the theater with skeletje, a visual, playful and moving show about death, mourning and memories. How does it feel when someone is no longer there? Can you still dance if you are a skeleton? And how do you keep someone alive in stories and rituals?
About big people and Maas Theater and Dans
We are big people. And we do play. We make theater for small people - playful, philosophical and with a good dose of humor. Our performances are bursting with physical game forms, unexpected twists and big questions.
After Boef (about good and evil) and egg (about art and rules), we perhaps take the biggest question of all under the Loep: Death. Not as a scary or heavy subject, but as a playful adventure, in which we learn to remember, miss, and celebrate.
