About event
SMUK Sound - baptism of the album Call Me and Princess
Smuk Sound is the Denmark -Czech duo vibraphonist Victoria Søndergaard and double bassist Klára Pudláková. Musicians met during the studio at Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris as part of the Erasmus program in 2020, ie at the time of the Lockdown. This difficult time prevented them from exposing the Paris music scene, but instead created an intimate space for a deeper connection in the Dua format. Klára and Victoria spent days playing standards, sharing their own compositions and improvisations. The combination of vibraphone and double bass offers large composition challenges. They keep friendship and musical connection in Paris remotely with mutual invitations to hosting in other projects. Both have successful author bands on the Danish and Czech jazz scene (Viktoria Holde Søndergaard - Baryl, Klára Pudláková - Uthando, Pudlax, Maomah). In 2024, both musicians were admitted to the Erasmus Master at the Academy of Oslo. Norwegian dark winter days allowed to return to intensive testing, which gave a clear impulse to create and record the debut album. The beauty of nature intensely reminds us so that the lack of light does not put it into depression. In the process of creation, both composers became that the compositions performed by vibraphone and double bass evoked fairy -tale jingles. Therefore, they decided to completely submit this direction and name the album Call Me and Princess. The album brings music dreams, frozen, freezing and soothing.
BARYL
BARYL band playfully and modern and examines the contrast between tight compositions and completely free collective improvisations. In the spring of 2022 they won the "jazz competition" and played sold out concerts at Winterjazz 2023. Politiken wrote: "In Not Many Years, The Barylers May End UP Becoming One of the Country's Most South-After Group. The Are At Least Laying The Foundation for Someting Real Big." Blayl recently released a new album "What The Hell Is Going On?" He writes, among other things, information: "Although The Band Name Connotes Ballads, Baryl Plays Only The Most Enjoyable Kind. The Music Is Subtle and Ambitous Without Being Silly Or Vain." Since January 2024 we will experience Baryl as a quintet with two saxophonists, both of which have been playing with Bayl for a long time, and especially that's why it is only a natural next step for the band.
