About event

Milan Smart will present a lecture on the topic of “Slanis and Salna Lake South Moravia: past, present and future” on 24. 2 2025 in the landscape lecture hall from 5 pm.

Inauguration lecture by the new chairman of the CBS I donate a topic dealing with my great predecessors, teachers and colleagues at the botanical workplace of Masaryk University in Brno - Jan Šmarda, Jiří Vicherek and Vít Grulich. In the 19th century, the remarkable habitat of the bacon was widespread in the lowlands between Znojmo, Brno and Břeclav. There were even salty lakes at Čejč and Kobylí. Due to the drainage of the landscape and the end of the grazing of domestic animals on salted soils of saltwood in most locations, the specialized plant species have disappeared with them. However, the experience of recent years has shown that saltables can be restored at extinct locations. In the lecture, I will summarize the history of the South Moravian Salt Flora and Vegetation and its Research, the current situation based on the survey we have conducted in recent years, ecological renewal and outlook projects.
