🎭 Jozef Bednárik made a significant impact on several types of theater both on the amateur and professional stage - dramas, operas and musicals, puppet theater, and he also showed his invention and innovation in ballet and television dramatic work. Only pantomime and cabaret are missing from the register of his directing work (although he used several procedures and elements from it or knowingly referred to it). Bednárik constantly reminded himself that life and theater include tragedy, comedy, drama, sounds, music, rhythm, movement of various kinds, creativity - beauty and ugliness, honest and false words, deceptive, pleasing and disharmonious. ✨ He understood all this in close proximity, as a conglomerate of life's reality, including theater and art in general. Bednárik's directorial work, sanctified by his sensitive sensitivity, talent, imagination, his optics of viewing the world, evolved from this.
💡 The voluminous monograph is the work of renowned theater scholars under the guidance of the book's expert guarantor, Professor Vladimír Štefek, who is also the author Prologue, Epilogue and two studies - about Bednárik's work in amateur theater, in the Theater in Zelenč and about drama productions, In other parts of the book, Ida Hledíková analyzes Bednárik's work in the puppet theater and explores Bednárik's unique theatrical focus.
Klára Madunická brings the reader closer to ballet and opera productions, typical elements of Bednárik's opera work and discusses individual productions in thematic areas (e.g. Mephisto motifs, biographical productions, film inspirations, etc.). Stanislav Bachleda is the author of the text about Bednárik's musical work, which won Bednárik a wide range of viewers and became one of the most popular Slovak directors after November 1989 (Dracula, Fidlikant on the Roof, Joseph and his Miraculous Cloak, The Gospel of Mary). It is also dedicated to bringing Bednárik's cooperation with set designers and costume designers closer.
📚 The publication will include previously unpublished explanations, own analyzes and comments by Jozef Bednárik on individual productions, which have been preserved for history thanks to the care of the unprocessed estate in the family archive of Vít Bednárik and Dagmar Bednáriková.
