_______________________________________

📚 Author Juraj Šebesta together with a cross-section of world, but especially Slovak, theater history, brings topics such as contemporary youth, love, relationships at school, family ties, the search for one's own identity. In the novel, the theater appears as an almost omnipotent medium that helps young people get to know themselves better, navigate relationships, and at the same time it is a new and captivating way to find your place in a complicated world.

Mosaic. images from the life of teenagers, each character is connected with a specific theater profession that young people discover for themselves.

Laura, Linda, Mirka and Vanda, Daniel, Alan, Andrej and Kamil are united by high school, an innovative professor - an inspirer, and the preparation of theatrical performances that will change their lives.

🌐 Learning by doing

The novel is based on the principle of experiential learning or learning by doing. The self-sacrificing professor enthuses his class of high school students about theater, he himself teaches them about Slovak theater and leads them to stage some original plays - as part of school and entertainment. Students learn a lot about theater not only from explanations and discussions, but also by making theater themselves. The entire class acts or participates, so the productions also have the character of a school theater, but the initiative is taken from the beginning by a small group of creative students, all of whom discover their own thing in the theater. This core of the future ensemble has the main merit for the final shape of the productions.

👏 Self-confident youth with an open mind

During just over a school year, students' knowledge are expanding, the creation of the group is developing - from parody skits, a possible form of the origin of ancient comedy, through medieval games and festivities in the square to bold interpretations of Juraj Láni's plays, Jonáš Záborský and Petr Karvaš, staged in a non-traditional setting. Youth express themselves spontaneously with art. Thanks to the Professor, the students acquire a relationship with the theater, with their own culture and history, and they are not indifferent to public matters either.

👀 Characters and theater professions or question marks over the future

Who is clear at the age of eighteen what exactly they want to be, what and where they would like to do most of their life?

Will the students be able to realize their dreams and plans?

Each of them represents one of the theater professions: direction, dramaturgy, set design, that is scenography and costumes, acting, but also lighting and sound design, stage music, theater journalism or management. Some characters handle more professions than is usually the case. At the same time, the Professor introduces students to the work of theater historians and critics, he personifies theater pedagogy.

🖍 Utopian ideas about high school?

The novel is intended only for high school students or generally older youth. We would also like to reach out to adults, be it parents of students, those interested in theater regardless of age, but also educators who may be inspired by it. In this sense, the novel is a utopia, in our high schools nowadays, a teacher could hardly have so much space for the topic of theater. But even this utopian idea wants to be a provocative contribution to the discussion about teaching in secondary schools, about their meaning for our society. Its further development cannot be done without quality education.

Ancient philosophers already knew this, including Diogenes from Sinope, who lived in Athens at the market in a barrel, but it was not only this marketing that made him enroll in of history.

He claimed that quality education of the youth is the basis of the development of every state. And the position and evaluation of teachers should correspond to this.

The complete list of used and recommended literature is in the beginning of the book, under the QR code. The list is extensive, but it contains titles that can fundamentally influence the decision of young people - to become theater actors. Or managers or businessmen to decide to live for the theater... and possibly support it financially.

This book is primarily a novel attempt to bring our theater closer to the youth so that they gain a relationship with it and visit it.< br/>
