The 2nd edition of the Sleep Innovation Forum in the Future Health Lab focuses on systemic improvements in the patient journey.

What can change in the healthcare system to improve the diagnosis and treatment of chronic To make sleep disorders more contemporary?

On Thursday, October 17th, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m . The Sleep Innovation Forum 2024 will take place in the Future Health Lab in Vienna to discuss this question.

In Austria, according to a study, 51 percent of the population is - and/or difficulty sleeping through the night. Sleep disorders such as chronic insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can have various causes and lead to serious complications and reduced performance. Chronic insomnia alone causes annual costs to the Austrian economy of around 2.6 billion euros through absenteeism and reduced performance at work, which leads to a GDP loss (gross domestic product) of 0.64 percent. Although a large proportion of patients do not actively seek help for sleep problems, the average waiting time in public sleep laboratories is often up to a year.

For solutions to these problems In order to develop grievances, seven socio-political recommendations for action were defined together with the Austrian Society for Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research (ÖGSM) as part of a multi-stakeholder process involving experts, health service providers and those affected.

The aim of this event is to present and hand over the socio-political recommendations for action developed in the multi-stakeholder process as well as to discuss the ability of these to be connected to the Austrian healthcare system.

Prof. Dr. Siegfried Meryn, CEO of the Future Health Lab, health expert, internist and chairman of the ORF Health Advisory Board, will lead the discussion.
