About event
A real dance location, fine wooden floors, 130 dancers and wonderful music by Wouter Kuyper and Snaarmaarwaar. All ingredients are for a nice ball. Come and enjoy and dance on Sunday 6 April in the medium -sized hall of Candance Studios, Slotij Station Sloterdijk.
Do you want to learn to dance Balfolk? There is a free dance instruction for beginners in advance. After this workshop you can already participate in the most important nos during the ball.

Almost 20 years of touring the men of Snaarmaarwaar continuously along halls and Podia. One guitar, one mandola and one mandolin. A set of reserves and a lot of playing gest: they don't need more to ignite the magical live-spark with their inspiring tunes. Their youngest throw is called "Lys", a reference to the fascinating, winding path where their music already brought them, just like the wonderfully meandering Leie between Ghent and Deinze.
The album was recorded in Studio: three men around a micro as it were, and just play. In terms of content, it became a "return à la source", a rediscovery of the mysterious way in which their string sounds merge until you no longer know who exactly plays which riff, who is launching which melody. A rediscovery also of that deep warmth of the sound of wood, the spark of strings, the magnificent work of the instrument builder in his distant studio. Where they still lived on the previous album "B.L.O.C.K" with rich clothing, heavy overps and endless layers on "Lys" the austerity and the pure string sound where they have long had a patent. Take a seat in the delicious acoustic bath with which the men will fill the room and your heart.

'I was born musically in Gooik'
On his 10th, his parents Wouter for the first time to Gooik (Belgium). There he met folk music, and has gained the addiction that is not over to this day. Wouter has already danced Bal Folk since his first visit to Gooik and started playing on his eleventh bagpipe. At the age of fifteen, the harmonica was added. From the age of seventeen he played in his first band. Regular visits to other festivals and workshops (Saint Chartier, Schier, Teeeu etc) kept the fire warm.
He makes no secret why he was inspired by old Flemish, French and Dutch dance music: 'I love Bals, I love the festivals like in Startier and Gooik. The choice for Balrepertoire is then quickly made. "
