About event

We invite you on a unique journey to a mysterious world where nature came alive under the influence of ancient legends. On Wednesday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m., the Čunovo Eco Center will host a discussion with Mgr. Diana Hurbanová, who will reveal to us what creatures inhabited the ponds, forests, underground or homes of our ancestors.

Our Slavic ancestors respected the natural elements and believed in the existence of supernatural beings that shaped their everyday life and imagination. These beliefs persisted even long after the adoption of Christianity and left a deep mark in our culture and folklore.

A maze, a fairy, a witch, a witch, a dragon or a sea...

Come and discover the world of well-known and lesser-known supernatural beings of our ancestors. Ethnologist Diana Hurbanová will tell you:

What creatures were found near ponds, in forests, underground, or around the home.
To whom black animals were sacrificed and who only drank milk from a black cow.
Why it was forbidden to whistle in the forest and why working in the fields during midday was dangerous.
With whom the millers had secret alliances and what kind of creature she was able, at the expense of her own soul, to fulfill every wish.
How an Easter egg could save a life, why people put a needle in their keyhole, who had water dripping from their left ear, who flew on a dragon, who could dance or tickle you to death, and much more.

About the lecturer:
Mgr. Diana Hurbanová studied ethnology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. In his work, he focuses on European folklore and mythology, verbal folklore, fairy tale symbolism, annual customs and neo-paganism. Her extensive knowledge and engaging narrative style promise an unforgettable evening full of discoveries.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to look into the rich cultural history and understand how our ancestors perceived the world around them. Come and listen to stories that have been shaped by generations and that contain the wisdom and secrets of nature.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:00 pm in the Čunovo Ecocentre!
