About event
During the last weekend of May, from 30 May to 1 June 2025, the 8th year of the Festival Word or Music will take place in Art Cafe Banská Štiavnica. Its name hides the word freedom, and we also talk about freedom in art at the time of normalization with the actors of the then dissent from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The theme of this annual festival will be "courage". Sociologist Olga Gyarfašová and journalist Soňa Gyarfášová will present new books focused on heroes and heroines from the time of the former regime, "did not let them break" and "as we lived in years of normalization". In the discussion of civil society you will be able to meet Juraj Rizman, Zuzana Janíčková and Marián Kulich. There will also be renowned historians and researchers Madeline Vadkerta with Ivan Kamenec, or former judge and writer Josef Holcman with the book Kacří vintage.
On Friday evening you can look forward to a concert of Veca and Supa with a new album Square of Freedom and on Saturday will perform Vojtík and Lucia Piussi with Solo concerts. In the garden, the sound performance of the Floating arboretum project will take place on Sunday afternoon <3
