About event
CZ, SK 2022, 94 min., OmeU. Director: Beata Parkanova. With: Martin Finger, Gabriela Mikulková, Jenovéfa Boková, Marek Geišberg, Ondřej Sokol, Ján Jackuliak and others.
Director Beata Parkanová takes us to a small town in Czechoslovakia in the late 1960s, into the period after the suppression of the reform movement and the occupation of the country. The notary Václav lives here with his wife Věra and their two children. He advises his clients on inheritance issues and experiences many a dispute. In the current case, too, he must remind the heirs of their responsibility for their actions and words, and that this never ends, even when their mother no longer watches over them. His appeal to the heirs' conscience is interrupted by two unannounced visitors who want to recruit Václav for the Communist Party and begin to threaten him when he refuses. This is not the first time this has happened, and until now Václav has always remained steadfast, but now times are harder and Václav is in danger of collapsing. Luckily, there is still his wife Věra, who stands by her husband and remains true to the word she once gave him.
In her masterfully told drama, the director shows how political pressure influences the life of a morally upright person by focusing entirely on the psyche of her protagonist. His inner conflicts are written on his face, which the camera repeatedly captures in close-ups. For his role as Václav, Martin Finger received the actor award at the 56th Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, Beata Parkanová was honored there with the award for best director.
Admission: EUR 8, reduced EUR 6.50
