The disintegration of the common state of Czechs and Slovaks was one of the most fundamental moments in the modern history of Central Europe. Was it inevitability, the result of political agreements, or the failure of civil society?

Together they will try to understand why we did not keep the republic, what this historical moment tells us about our society and how it affects today's perception of democracy, identity and solidarity.
The discussion will touch on:
Political decisions of Czech and Slovak leaders and the behind-the-scenes negotiations on the partition, public attitudes - between support, disinterest and fear of change, economic and regional differences that shaped political moods, the role of culture, media and national identity in creating social tension, and also the question of what we (un)learned from the partition - how citizens, as a society, as a democracy.
