About event

🇩🇰 The Dogma 95 movement will be announced by two young Danish directors Thomas Vinterberg and Lars von Trier in 1995 on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of film as a slap in the face to the commercialization of cinema. Manifesto Dogma 95 and Pledge of Purity subscribe to the rhetoric of the avant-garde and new waves and call for a revival of cinema by its own means, without spectacular technical tricks and mammoth budgets. Is this a clever marketing move by ambitious filmmakers or an authentic reaction to the crisis of European film and the true rebirth of cinema as the language of reality?
🎬The lecture will be connected with the screening of the film Idiots (Lars von Trier, 1998). Despite the fact that Lars von Trier together with Thomas Vinterberg made a pledge of cinematic purity in the form of a manifesto, this is the director's only work with a Dogma 95 certificate. The story about a group of young people who pretend to be mentally disabled in public is based on a minimalist aesthetic: a hand-held camera, a natural environment and the absence of music. And he is not afraid to go to the edge of provocation, including a controversial scene of unsimulated sex.
