About event

In co-production with PIÑATA

On November 16, 2024, Michael League, founder and leader of Snarky Puppy, woke up in Barcelona after playing the previous night at the Palau de la Música Catalana as a special guest of Andrea Motis' Temblor project. That same day he flew to Japan to write what was going to be Snarky Puppy's second collaborative album with the Dutch Metropole Orkest. Alone, with the idea of isolating himself to compose –with some exceptions: tennis matches and sake tastings–, League wrote the music for Somni in a month –yes, the original title is in Catalan–, an album that, although it is only instrumental, appeals very radically to the emotions. Each of the pieces on the recording explores, we are warned, a different aspect of the dream state: changing identities, surreal logic, spectral intimacy and the strange emotional residue that remains after waking up. «Instrumental music lends itself to exploring abstract concepts –League himself has explained–, because the fact that it does not have lyrics allows for a lot of imagination on the part of the listener.»

The album will finally be released on November 21. A few months later, Snarky Puppy will return to Barcelona to present this surprising and emotional Somni: "It is, by far, the most ambitious project we have ever done," highlights League. Spoiler: he's right.
