About event
The SNP in Tabačka refers to the events of August 29, 1944, when the Slovak National Uprising started with extensive anti -fascist mobilization. More than 80 years later, we see that extremist and authoritarian tendencies re -penetrate Slovak politics and public space.
People who openly relativize the crimes of fascism sit in parliament. There are groups that spread hatred of the Roma, Queer community, refugees and civil initiatives. The government takes steps that weaken independent media, suppress civil society and threaten democratic institutions.
In Tabačka the SNP event, we reflect that the fight against fascism is not a past, but a presence. Therefore, we do not want to commemorate it only by a memorial act at the memorial, but as a living legacy of courage, cooperation and resistance. It will not be pathetic language and wreaths, but an open public space for discussion, music, art and critical thinking.
