One of the most exciting violinists in the international violin heaven
- ARTE -

Described as a “world-class violinist” (Stuttgarter Zeitung) but also a “rock star” (the Jakarta Post), Iskandar Widjaja connects worlds. While the son of Arab-Dutch and Chinese-Indonesian parents grew up with top-class classical music and has already performed with the most internationally renowned orchestras such as the German Symphony Orchestra and Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Munich, Warsaw and Shanghai Philharmonics, from the Sydney Symphony to the Orchester de la Suisse Romande, from the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra to the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, he built one for himself at the same time Showbiz career in the East Asian region, which led to regular television appearances, commercial advertising contracts, brand ambassador activities and “trending topic” status (most mentioned term) on Twitter. During the pandemic, he flexibly switched to online productions and reached over 7 million people with his music videos and streaming concerts.

At the age of 11, he was accepted as a young student at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin. He later studied at the PreCollege of the Berlin University of the Arts (Julius Stern Institute). As a teenager and student, he won many international awards and today he collaborates with music greats such as Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Rolando Villazón, Cameron Carpenter, David Foster, Anggun, Itamar Golan and Fazil Say in halls such as the Elbphilharmonie, Berliner Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, Tonhalle Zurich, Hong Kong City Hall, the Shanghai Cultural Arts Center and the Tel Aviv Openhaus. At the same time, he often appears at mass media events such as Miss World or Miss Earth, the Davis Cup, the EXPO in Milan, the Fashion Week in Paris or at the world premiere of the suite for violin and orchestra “Across the Stars” from Star Wars in the Vienna Konzerthaus. In addition to the traditional repertoire, he organizes the concept concert “Bach and Zen” in collaboration with a Zen master and works as a composer and songwriter. His compositions cannot be classified into any genre, with influences from film music, baroque, pop and hip hop.

Iskandar is strongly committed to educational projects for children in the Asia-Pacific region, for example in collaboration with UNICEF and the WWF. With KOMPAS Gramedia, Indonesia's largest media group, and the "besharp foundation", he organizes charities to finance musical instruments and lessons for street children, orphans and school children. The magazine "The Strad", the bible of string instruments, summarizes his personality and energy with: "Iskandar Widjaja, a true force of nature." He plays the Stradivarius “Stephens” 1690 and a JB Vuillaume 1875.
