About event

In September in Amsterdam, we will discuss Annie Erno ** “Event” **, which will raise in our club the topic of banning abortion and reproductive choice. The topic is difficult, but especially important in the current conditions of the movement of Western (and not only) politicians to conservatism. The book is a striking example of the auto -company genre, and we will be able to talk about this genre.

Annie Erno is a French writer. In 2022, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The film adaptation received in 2021 the main prize of the Venice Film Festival.

**Annotation:**
*In 1963, twenty -three -year -old Annie Erno discovers that she is pregnant. In France of that time, abortion was prohibited. The “event”, written forty years later, talks about several months during which she hid pregnancy from her parents, was looking for help from acquaintances and doctors and tried in vain to make an abortion of knitting needles. The story, told in the brutal simplicity of facts, shows us a taboo society. and class prejudices, where the heroine experienced by the heroine becomes an initiation. Based on the record in the diary and memory, scrupulously building a double perspective, Erno selects a new meaning for the experience.*

The book is translated into Russian and available in different formats.
