About event
"A socialist person is not a homosexual!"
The production Socialism with a warm face tells about how queer people lived under socialism. It takes place in the 1980s during normalization. A young man comes to the capital with the desire to be cured of homosexuality. On the street, he meets a strange group that is different and does not fit into the gray average of socialism. It is about Alex, who has a secret lover, Zlatica and Básnik, who live together. He gradually becomes familiar with the places and ways in which these invisible and non-existent people survive.
Will the socialist healthcare system cure him? Will traditional marriages break down? Will ŠTB catch him in its trap of pink lists?
The production was also based on the interviews of memorialists from the LGBTI community, for which we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. The NOMANTINELS Theater collaborated with the Petr Mankovecký Theater on the creation and implementation.
The creation of the production is also part of a larger international project about the history of queer people called Removal of Queer Curtain within the countries of Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, where the play was also presented due to the similarity of experiences from life in socialism.
