“The prosecution claims that I corrupt the youth. I want to show you where those slanders originated!”
Tragedy dealing with the theme of the relationship between teacher and pupil on the layout of the Defense of Socrates. In Plato's text, he fights for his own life before the court. The plaintiffs are his students. The advocates are his students.
Stories about students who defied their teachers can be found throughout history. In recent years, few Czech universities have avoided controversies concerning the topics of hierarchy, distribution of power and the very form of contemporary education. Although they led to different outcomes, they had one thing in common. They entered people's lives at universities and in the public space, where they accentuated the theme of intergenerational understanding.
"It is time for us to leave, me to death, you to life. No one knows which of us goes to a better cause."
In dialogue with the Defense of Socrates and the actors of HaDivadl, an author's production mapping the dynamic relationship between teachers and pupils will be created. Who actually needs protection - the teacher or the students? What can we learn from each other? What prevents us from understanding each other? When do we have power and when do we abuse it? When do we become a bully? And is tyranny ever appropriate?
