About event
Three interwar sonatas for flute and piano will be performed by the excellent Czech flutist Anna Rheingans and pianist Pavel Voráček. All three authors share the theme of forced emigration before totalitarian regimes. Unfortunately, Schulhoff's life and composition line was ended by the Nazi malice, before which he did not have time to flee to the West, just as Bohuslav Martinů managed to escape to France and later to the USA. Karel Boleslav Jirák, who helped Schulhoff at the beginning of the occupation and employed him at Czech Radio, was forced to emigrate to the USA by the rise of communist power in the early 1950s. The destinies of these three men are thus connected not only on the creative side. Each of the sonatas represents a completely unique compositional world and shows the breadth of the musical range of Czech artists of the interwar period.
