About event
On the morning of December 7, 1970, Willy Brandt knelt in front of the Warsaw Ghetto memorial. The quiet gesture of humility is now considered one of the most important snapshots of German post-war history and a turning point in the confrontation with Nazi crimes. At that time, the Warsaw kneeling still caused controversial discussions in the Federal Republic. In an Allensbach survey for SPIEGEL, almost half of those surveyed rejected Willy Brandt's behavior as "excessive".
On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the kneeling, we look back at the events. What made Willy Brandt's visit to the Polish capital so special? How did the gesture influence German-Polish relations? And how was the kneeling perceived from a Jewish and Israeli perspective? Escape the Berlin Christmas hustle and bustle for an hour and follow us on an exciting themed tour through the Forum Willy Brandt Berlin.
Participation in the tour is free of charge. Registration is not required.
