About event

Author's exhibition of watercolors.

“I come from Bulgaria, but since 1990 the Czech Republic has become my second home, a place where my roots are intertwined with a new landscape. I spent half of my life working for companies like GE, Allianz or Rohlik, where I worked as a financial director.

I entered the world of art in 2019 thanks to an unexpected gift - painting courses from my colleagues. How well they knew me! After a thirty-year career, I longed to leave the strict, structured world and find freedom in expression. Art became my refuge, my oasis. I decided to devote more space to it in my life - during 2024 I founded my website and exhibited at several international exhibitions.

Painting became a form of active meditation for me. I've been meditating for over 15 years now, but I've found that when I step into the studio, I get into that deep state much faster. It is a beautiful silence where the mind quiets down and I am fully present. I don't just make art, I become art. When I finally step away from the screen, I am not exhausted, but full of energy. As if my soul was satiated. One of the things that keeps my feet on the ground and pushes me forward in my personal growth is my love of learning. Whether it's exploring the fluidity of watercolor, the boldness of ink, or the depth of mixed media, I'm always hungry to learn more. Each technique and tool adds a new layer to my expression. There is something deeply satisfying about mastering a new skill, and I believe that constant learning is what makes life—and art—rich and fulfilling. For me, it's not just about the final work, but about the learning journey that

brings it to life. In my paintings, I draw on memories and emotions, I try to find purity through simplification and elimination of unnecessary details. My intention is to give the audience a feeling of lightness and positive energy." Sonia Slavtcheva
