The Sori Quartet is a fusion ensemble, which consists of four Korean musicians who live and work in Amsterdam, Berlin, London and Stuttgart. Their debut performance in November 2023 at the Barbican Center in London delighted audiences with a unique blend of traditional Korean music and modern jazz. In 2024, they performed at the Akbank Jazz Festival in Istanbul, cementing their reputation as a musical bridge between East and West. The word “소리” (Sori) means “sound” or “tone” in Korean and encompasses a wide range of acoustic expressions. In traditional Korean music, “Sori” is a central element that refers to the sound character and expressiveness of the melody. Improvisation plays a crucial role in both jazz and Korean music. And the Sori Quartet combines both to create a unique sound spectrum that oscillates between tension and gentleness. Their repertoire includes the members' own compositions as well as traditional Korean music, which they reinterpret with complex harmonies and flowing melodies.
