About event

Body Machine (Meridians) is a series of biomimetic robotic objects created in the air that re-perceive machines as part of living systems - not as tools, but as partners.

The project is based on the concept of "meridian" and creates a space for thinking about the connections between the movement of the human body, forms of machines and the ecosystems of the Earth. The work draws on the philosophy of Gilbert Simondon, who perceived the machine as a product of the cultural imagination. Chung builds on this idea and develops the idea of the machine as a feeling, reacting and creative partner. Body Machine (Meridians) invites the viewer to think about how the body, technology and landscape interact – and where the boundaries between them are blurred.

Sougwen 月君 Chung (1985) is a Chinese-Canadian artist and researcher who is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of human-machine collaboration – exploring the hand-made and machine-made trace as an approach to understanding the dynamics between people and systems. Sougwen's work, entitled Memory (Drawing Operations Unit: Generation 2) is part of the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum and is the first artificial intelligence model to be included in the collection of a major institution. Recently, Chung was recognized as a Cultural Leader at the World Economic Forum and named to Time's 100 Most Influential People in AI.
