Heidi Gröger, Lea Rahel Bader, viola da gamba | Flóra Fábri, harpsichord

Heidi Gröger, Lea Rahel Bader, viola da gamba | Flóra Fábri, harpsichord

Compositions by Ludwig Christian Hesse, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Christoph Schaffrath, Carl Friedrich Abel, Marin Marais and Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe

In the middle of the 18th century, the viola da gamba was considered a noble but old-fashioned string instrument that was no longer up to the demands of the modern orchestra. At the Prussian court, however, the gamba once again experienced an extraordinary heyday during the reign of Frederick II, largely triggered by the artistic playing of the court gambist Ludwig Christian Hesse, with which he also inspired his immediate colleagues in the court orchestra. The two viol players Heidi Gröger and Lea Rahel Bader, together with the harpsichordist Flóra Fábri, present a representative excerpt from this Prussian repertoire.
