About event
Special screening of the feature film "To a Land Unknown" by Mahdi Fleifel.
As part of the European Arthouse Cinema Day.
A run-down neighborhood on the outskirts of Athens, marked by crime and poverty: cousins Reda (Aram Sabbah) and Chatila (Mahmoud Bakri) struggle every day with the same plight as hundreds of thousands of other Palestinians - life as refugees. Bonded by love and friendship, but also the weight of despair that follows them across time and place, they fight to escape their misery and secure a better future for themselves and the loved ones they left behind. But is there any way out for the two of them? How can one's humanity be preserved when one is born into a life marked by incessant cruelty?
To a Land Unknown is a sensitive, moving and captivating examination of the situation of the Palestinians and what it means to be a stateless refugee in a world characterized by racist prejudices and social inequalities. Renowned Danish-Palestinian filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel has co-written his latest film with Moroccan-British screenwriter and filmmaker Fyzal Boulifa. The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
