The Hron Choir is an amateur vocal group based in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, named after the river Hron, which flows through central Slovakia, including the city. The choir, which was founded in 1949 by local teachers with the support of the Slovak Cultural Center, has choral works from the Renaissance to the present in its repertoire. Although the members of the choir come from different professional backgrounds, they are not professional singers, but rather enthusiastic amateurs, of whom there are currently around 30.
During its 75-year history, the Hron choir has participated in many competitions and performed at various events, including church and secular concerts. With its artistic interpretation, the choir shared the beauty, joy and enthusiasm of vocal and melodic art with thousands of listeners, representing the city of Banská Bystrica not only in its homeland, but also performing in other countries such as Poland, Romania, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece , Hungary, Italy, Holland, Spain, Switzerland and the Vatican.

Key milestones in the choir's history include the release of a cassette tape in 1994, the first CD in 1999 and a Christmas CD in 2022. Current conductor Peter Bibza has been leading the choir for over 25 years and is the author of his own compositions, as well as arrangements of Slovak folk songs and sacred compositions. of Viliam Figuš - Bystrý in Banská Bystrica, the International Competition "World Music to Mondo in Musica", the Internationaler CHOR Wettbewerb in Spital an der Drau in Austria (2003, 2004), the 20th anniversary of the recognition of Croatia and Slovakia in Zagreb, Croatia (2013 ), the International Festival of Choirs in Krakow, Poland (2013), the International Festival "Vranov Choir Festival" in Vranov nad Topľou, Slovakia (2012, 2022), the festival in Přerov in the Czech Republic in 2017. In 2023, the choir as the only foreign the body performed at the International Ecumenical Concert of Penitential and Passion Music in Žory, Poland. In 2024, the choir performed with the Collegium Vocale choir at joint concerts in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
