Hornád Breakthrough in May 2025
The Hornád River springs in the northeastern edge of the Low Tatras and after more than 30 km it reaches the edge of Slovenský raj near Hrabušice. After a short meander part of the river, the river leaves the Hornád Kotlina and enters its most beautiful part - the Breakthrough Hornád. Hornád is pushing through the bottom of the deep limestone canyon with high steep walls and creates a section that is unparalleled by water or landscapes throughout Slovakia.

The Hornád Breakthrough is scheduled for the beginning at Hrabušický myth. We will sail through the throat of Hornád near Podlesko. We will take a small break at the Letanov Mlyn and the Carthian bridge and we will finally end the weir at the Smižanská Maša behind Čingov. The weir of Hornád will last approximately 3-4 hours according to the current water status, the flow of cruise of the whole group, etc. The difficulty of the river is to WWII+, which means something between the navigable and lighter rafting. We will navigate on two -digit inflatable canoes. Safety will be supervised by experienced instructors. Later, the river plunges into the massif of the Slovak Paradise, where it is no longer possible to end the weir prematurely. The section of the river is located in the highest 5th degree of nature conservation, so there are strict rules such as rising on the banks of the river in other than official output places.
