About event
How to create a nation “on a green meadow”: the Big Bang of Ataturk Turkey and what teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. Host: Vladimír Bízik, Ph.D.
We invite you to the first federal Thursday of the new academic year. With an expert in the Middle East Vladimír Bízik, we will focus on the transformation of Ataturk Turkey and think about what similar "national revival" teaches us about the world of the 21st century
The lecture will focus on one of the most radical transformations of modern history - Mustafa Kemal (called Atatürk) National identity on the debris of the Ottoman Empire. We will see how anatolic farmers have become "Turks", as the language was rewritten, changed the calendar, clothing and the role of religion, and how national history was constructed on a completely new foundation. We will show parallels with other "national revival" and think about what this example tells us about the nature of nationalism and who is the people of the 21st century. The doctorate in the field of international relations and European policy acquired at the FSS MU, where he had previously completed his master's degree in international relations and rights and legal sciences. In his research, he has long focused on the Middle East, especially on Turkey and his policy. He has had teaching and study stays in Turkey or Cyprus and teaches the English -eyed course "Turkish Politics and Foreign Policy". He speaks English, German, Turkey, Persian and Japanese. He is the author of professional articles devoted to Turkish foreign policy. For example, he worked as an academic worker of the Center for Security and Military Studies of the University of Defense in Brno, where he taught in his career courses for officers of the Army of the Czech Republic. He participated in the creation of strategic documents for the Army of the Czech Republic and as a representative of the Czech Republic participated in NATO forums. He regularly comments on the events in the field of his professional competence in the media.
