About event
We cordially invite you to the lecture entitled: "Spontaneous communication through the prism of cognitive linguistics" by associate professor, cognitive linguist Mirjam Friedová from the Department of General Linguistics of the Faculty of Economics of the UK.
Annotation:
Even the most banal everyday a conversation that flows naturally and seemingly without effort arises from a complex interplay of various mental processes and presupposes a set of general cognitive abilities that are human kind endowed. In order for language communication to work, a given language community must share a conventionalized and culturally anchored "code", which, however, is not static, unchanging and identical for all individuals of the given community. Therefore, in her lecture, the associate professor wants to use concrete examples of authentic language interaction to show how the conceptual tools and analytical methods of cognitive linguistics allow us to better understand the essence of such a variable, inherently dynamic and layered system, whose primary function is the communication and interpretation of various kinds of meaning. The goal is the description and explanation of language phenomena and their use in a way that is consistent with what we know about human cognition anchored in socio-culturally shaped communication practice.
The event will take place in the Hybernská Campus in building B. 1.
We look forward to seeing you!
