About event

We invite you to a creative event entitled: "Polish mosaic - national and ethnic minorities and ethnographic groups in Polish society." The presentation and workshops will be led by Robert Maciąg - I will add more about his work and passion in subsequent materials.

The workshops are co-financed by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague. Thank you for the support provided to us by the Consular and Polish Diaspora Section in Prague.
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague provided support for this project by allocating part of the Polish diaspora funds to finance it, with the consent of the Department of Cooperation with the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is a testimony of support for its implementation and the message it carries.

Did you know that for hundreds of years Poland was one of the most diverse places in Europe? Jews, Tatars, Roma, Lemkos, Karaites, Armenians, Kashubians, Wilamowians, Bambrians and many other communities lived side by side here and contributed their languages, traditions, costumes, music and customs to the common world. It is from this extraordinary diversity that a mosaic of cultures was created, which for centuries co-created the Republic of Poland.

During our meeting, we want not only to talk about history, but also touch tradition with our own hands. That's why together we will create folk "Power Spiders" - spatial decorations inspired by old straw decorations hung from the ceiling. For our ancestors, they were not just decorations. They symbolized the harmony of the world, prosperity and protection of the home, and their geometric forms were supposed to bring good energy to the inhabitants.

Folk spiders were strongly associated with the life cycle of home and nature. They were often created after the harvest from straw - a material symbolically "charged" with harvest, which was supposed to bring prosperity and abundance. In folk culture, everything remained in the rhythm of nature, which is why spiders became a symbol of balance, community and the bond between man and nature.

It is no coincidence that we meet in June - at a time close to the ancient summer solstice holidays, when our ancestors celebrated light, nature, community and abundance. Although today many people associate spiders mainly with Christmas decorations, in the past they accompanied household members all year round. We also want to return to their original meaning - as a symbol of community, creativity and the strength of diversity.

We will make our spiders from paper straws, yarns and tissue paper, combining tradition with modern, creative, modern creativity.

By your presence, you consent to the recording of your image during the meeting and its subsequent use for archival purposes.
