About event

We invite to the opening of the exhibition Stano Masár: Aimed Pravda. The author opens up the question of how our memory works - something remains in us a firm, lively memory, while most of the images of the past slowly melts in the unclear forgotten fog. This phenomenon shows that truth is not a solid entity, but rather a fragment that is constantly changing under the influence of time, context and personal experience. We ourselves be responsible for how we perceive, keep and interpret reality.
Masár transforms the known reality into new meaning and visual planes by manipulating common objects. Exhibited objects and installations are not only documents of the past, but rather by living carriers of memories that call on the viewer to actively engage in exploring their meaning. An adapted reading room with a newspaper, a set of postcards on the wall, or the shipping boxes in the corner of the room consists of a site-specific environment in which history encounters personal experience. The blurred newspaper Pravda visually symbolizes the uncertainty and contradiction between real events and political propaganda, between clearly the truth and its blurred, fragmentary imprints in memory. This month, in the context of Slovak and Czechoslovak history, it refers to the events of 1968, which are an important milestone in the collective memory of the country. Subsequently, November 1989 and the tender revolution are another point where the meaning of the truth and its far -reaching message is examined.
