About event
The well-known British director Ken Loach has been filming social dramas about ordinary people for more than half a century. If he keeps his word and doesn't return to directing movies, Old Oak could be his last. In the understated spirit of Loach's previous work, this film is not a grand summary of all the important motifs, but his yet another intimate look at poverty and social exclusion.
The Old Oak is the story of a village in the north-east of England, where it closed mine and people feel cut off from the system. Many young people have left and the once prosperous and proud community is struggling to keep the old values alive. However, there is growing anger, resentment and a lack of hope. Houses are cheap and affordable. This also makes the village an ideal location for the Syrian refugees Britain has taken in in recent years. How will the Syrians be received? And what will be the future of the last remaining pub in the village, Starý dub?
You will find out if you join us on Saturday to watch this great film in our attic at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets on site and online, 5 euros, student and ZŤPS tickets for 3.
