About event
Back in the cinema/back in cinemas
CH/D 1990, 90 min, you: Nicolas Humbert, Werner Penzel, Musicians: Fred Frith, Joey Baron, Ciro Battista, Iva Bittová, Tom Cora, Jean Derome, Pavel Fajt, Eitetsu Hayashi, Tim Hodkinson, Arto Lindsay, René Lussier, Haco, Kevin Norton, Bob Ostertag, Zeena Parkins, Lawrence Wright, John Zorn, Many Others
Fred Frith, John Zorn, Arto Lindsay, Ciro Battista, Iva Bitová, Bob Ostertag, Joey Baron, Jonas Mekas, Robert Frank - combines in one Celluloid improvisation about rhythm, lust for pictures and joie de vivre. Concert recordings, interviews in dilapidated hotel rooms and camera trips through metropolises such as New York and Tokyo mix into a stirring sound trip.
Music and picture are independent, none of them submit to the other and yet there are overlaps that are sometimes strange, sometimes absurd, just as beautiful - like the corn fields in the wind that long in the rhythm of Frith's improvisations swinging.
"Step Across the Border" is a black and white wink about the connection between quick tracks, storms and electric guitars and a masterful discourse on the spirit of making music and films.
