About event

Stephen v. Bothmer musically accompanies three women on their expeditions, a novelty in the male-dominated genre of expedition films.

Lola Kreutzberg undertakes her first research trip to Indonesia in 1925/26, followed by filming in India. There, in addition to documentaries and feature films, she also makes short films such as All sorts of island animal life, the climax of which is a fight between a mongoose and a snake. However, the much-discussed, highly praised scene comes from her full-length film Wunderland Bali, which the zoologist probably filmed in the Berlin Zoo in 1927. [Lola Kreutzberg, D 1927]

A year later, Olga B. Adamara compiled the film At the Sources of the Amazon, although Adamara probably never traveled to the Brazilian Amazon region. For the Ufa cultural department, she created her Ufa expedition film, enriched with Eurocentric explanations, from leftover material from the 1927 film King Amazonas, directed by William McGovern. [Olga B. Adamara, D 1928]

Pola Brückner, also known as Pola Bauer-Adamara, led an expedition to the Amazon region in 1929/30 with her husband August Brückner and the brothers Franz and Edgar Eichhorn. After her husband died of tropical fever, Pola Brückner took over the leadership of the expedition and completed the film together with cameraman Emilio Kaufmann. The Green Hell was released in cinemas in 1931. [Pola and August Brückner, D 1931]
