About event
Stephan Graf von Bothmer interprets the Berlin film in a completely new way at CineTronium. Current music with loops and beats combine with the 100-year-old images. Count Bothmer resurrects the Berlin of the 1920s: intoxicating and overwhelming, a dance on the volcano. And a great hymn to the city of Berlin.
Rich and poor, commerce and venal love, excess and work, people and machines stand right next to each other. Away from all the conventions of the feature film of the 1920s, "Berlin. The Symphony of a Big City" is a documentary, avant-garde, experiment and vision at the same time.
The camera sees rolls on a baking tray in the morning and the glowing iron of the steelworks, shows people's feet walking to work and gets lost in the traffic at Potsdamer Platz until the machines stop in the evening and neon signs shine their light on shopping streets, revues, theaters and throw the evening game of chance. [Walter Ruttmann, D 1927]
