This unique documentary filmed in Russia during the war against Ukraine brings a fascinating view of the originally scientific family from Novosibirsk. The film, using the harsh and raw images of the life of hardy, brawl and a radicalized video blogger, reveals a real life behind the curtain of propaganda.
O. Soukup went to the then Soviet Union with his parents in the mid -1980s, which, despite the original resolutions - became fatal. For several years he was the Moscow newsletter of Hospodářské noviny, worked for free Europe, the Institute of International Relations and People in Need. Since April 2023 he has been working in a foreign editorial office of Czech Radio. His experience and knowledge in Russia will give the composed evening a unique charge and illuminate the context of the film.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
While his parents, prominent scientists, remember the glory of the regime they willingly, a sworn patriot from Novosibirsk gradually changes his opinion on Putin's Russia. It rejects its capitalist nature and further, as a radicalized blogger, proclaims the establishment of a fairer regime. This intergenerational clash is typical for the countries of the former Soviet block. While the older generation remembers the certainty and benefits of the previous regime, the younger is hopelessly tossed in the crisis of the authority, it rejects the current political representation and resorts to extreme views. In the extreme, as everything in his life, he experiences his political awakening and Vitaly as the son of the elites displaced after the break -up of the empire on the social periphery. The time -lapse character study, filmed between 2016 and 2024, shows how long -term frustration and disillusion leads to the whole generation and social class to radical solutions and vote for authoritarian leaders such as Putin, Trump or Le Pen. The main prize for the film from Central and Eastern Europe Opus Bonum and special recognition in the Czech Joy section.
