Emeli Glaser – Rahnsdorf Ripper
born in 1996 in Berlin, works as a freelance journalist. Her texts appear in, among others, Zeit and taz. She is host and author of the podcast “Soulcatcher” on Bayerischer Rundfunk and writes for audio formats on WDR, SWR and Spotify. She was twice awarded first prize by the Young Literature Forum of Hesse-Thuringia for her short stories. She lives in Berlin.
"Rahnsdorf Ripper and other men's stories" - Berlin is known as a city of trendy districts and creative hubs. But there is another Berlin. Towards the eastern edge of the city, life becomes stuffy and cramped. Here there are soulless single-family houses next to GDR bungalows, losers of the reunification hang out in sports bars, family men buy cheaply at Kaufland in the industrial area. It is the real Berlin: the left-behind, the conservative, the petty-bourgeois pie-in-the-sky. Emeli Glaser roams through Mahlsdorf, Schönweide and Rahnsdorf - and here she encounters the brutal German average.
In her first book she encounters places where people have settled between self-pity and megalomania and far too often take the easy path instead of the courageous one.
With "Rahnsdorf Ripper" she paints a portrait of the absurdity of patriarchy in our times.
