About event
The Old Town of Bratislava is full of stories that can be read not only in what remains, but also in what has disappeared.
In addition to the preserved palaces, churches and fountains, there were once monuments that were the pride of the city and which the inhabitants looked at with admiration and pride.
Today, however, we can no longer find them on maps – they were destroyed by wars, regime changes or modernization interventions that irreversibly changed the face of Bratislava.
Sometimes they were buildings associated with power and representation, other times they were places of religious and cultural life.
Pompous palaces, spiritual centers and works of art that once decorated public spaces were lost.
In many cases, their liquidation was a conscious gesture - an attempt to erase the memory and symbols of previous times. Elsewhere, it was about "sacrificing" the past in the name of modernization or transport solutions.
Today, only old photographs, period engravings, narrative monuments and a silent presence in the city's memory remain. Their stories reveal not only architectural beauty, but also conflicts, political upheavals and dramatic decisions that affected Bratislava's identity. However, we will remember them with photos that will bring us closer to the view of our ancestors, which we will compare with our view during the tour.
We will not reveal what has all disappeared - the secret will be revealed step by step.
We are waiting for a journey behind the shadows of magnificent buildings that shaped Bratislava, but today they only survive in stories and in our imagination.
