About event

In 1969, a few hippies settled on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, where a wider community of people gradually emerged. The core consisted of young American students fighting against the establishment. They were quickly sent to the local jail for protesting and loitering.
When Howard Taylor and his sister, the famous actress Elizabeth Taylor, found out about it, they bailed them out and gave them their most beautiful piece of land on the island.
The community worked and grew for 8 years. It was made up of a wide range of people, from war veterans from Vietnam, to surfers, to families with children. They lived in tree houses and lived on food that they grew themselves.

The American filmmaker and photographer John Wehrheim captured their life in more than 100 pictures, which you can see at an exhibition in Bratislava from the end of October to December. Danubian.

On this occasion, John arrives from Hawaii for a debate in the boiler room!

He tells us the story of this utopian community, which, like the Woodstock festival, became a symbol of the hippie movement.

After the discussion, we will screen the film, On the Edge of Paradise.

See you!:)
