About event
radio3 and @radioeins invite you to an entertaining and highly interesting foray through world literature and its most beautiful details. The reason for this is “The Violet Puppy” – the new, much-praised book by Michael Maar, one of the most renowned German literary critics. There are two fantastic actors and great voices in the rbb's large broadcasting hall: Martina Gedeck and Ulrich Matthes.
In "The Violet Puppy" Michael Maar proves that not only is the devil in the details, but also the secret of great literature - if you have an eye for it. Whether Shakespeare or Thomas Mann - Michael Maar demonstrates what pleasure and charm attentive reading can bring: How Sherlock Holmes' method differs from that of Sigmund Freud, which German model shines behind Nabokov's Lolita and what Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and Stoker's "Dracula" are actually about.
What did Mark Twain dislike about Jane Austen, and how does Virginia Woolf take it into account "Mrs. Dalloway" foreshadows her own fate? Daniel Kehlmann, Jonathan Franzen, Salman Rushdie: The details also sparkle in contemporary works. And the purple puppy? It appears very casually in Tolstoy's "War and Peace" - and accompanies us through the book.
Thomas Böhm interviews Michael Maar. Martina Gedeck and Ulrich Matthes read the most beautiful passages about the small and large secrets of world literature.
