KNITTING IN THE CINEMA: On one Monday every month, take your knitting to the cinema and watch an interesting film while knitting with other knitters.

The everyday life of Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) in Sacramento, California consists of high school routine, family troubles and her first sobering experiences with boys. So it's no wonder that the 17-year-old dreams of fledging. In real life, she rebels with passion and stubbornness against the confines of her parents' home. But of course her mother (Laurie Metcalf) doesn't make it all that easy for the headstrong, bright teenager to be cut off, and so both of them repeatedly pull out all the emotional stops between defiance, anger and resignation.

LADY BIRD has been generating euphoric reactions from audiences and critics all over the world since its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and shows irresistibly charming and touchingly truthful take on what it means to grow up. Greta Gerwig (director & screenplay) directs her very personal and original look not least at an unusually intense mother-daughter relationship in which there is a lot of potential for emotional conflicts, but also heartfelt comedy. Of the four Golden Globe nominations for Best Film - Comedy/Musical, Best Actress - Comedy/Musical, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Score, LADY BIRD won two: Best Picture and for Saoirse Ronan as Best Actress.
