Masaryk University Faculty of Arts in Brno

EX ARTE cordially invites students of bachelor's, master's and doctoral study programs dealing with fine arts, visual culture and their history to a two-day conference organized by students of the Art History Seminar of the FF MU.

The conference takes place against the background of the call for transdisciplinary research within the more general structure of cultural sciences, which was characteristic of the previous generation of the Brno school of art history. Transdisciplinarity presupposes a two-way interdisciplinary dialogue of various humanities and natural science disciplines, in which the art historian can handle the results of other disciplines and interpret them using his own methodological procedures. In addition to the standard art-historical and methodological equipment, it uses the knowledge of historical and cultural-historical sciences or technological and material research. Conversely, art history can inspire other sciences from the perspective of its historical analysis of visual material as a cultural and social phenomenon. Let's look back together at the contribution of this approach and try to revise its possibilities or outline entirely new directions within the framework of the discussion.

The main goal of this conference is to create an open space and a communication platform for the purpose of learning about current strategies and practices in the study of art history, specifically those applied by the new generation of researchers.
