About event
A modern premiere of a stage performance based on sources from 1723.
"Musica Florea presents for the first time the original scenic reconstruction of the famous coronation play 'Sub olea pacis et palma virtutis' - the largest and most ambitious musical-dramatic work of Jan Dismas Zelenka."
Although Musica Florea has been dedicated to Zelenka's music since 1996 and in in 2000, it presented the work as a one-off stage, only now is the moment coming when this extraordinary baroque opera will see its original stage form as much as possible. The music, dance, acting and the stage will be carefully restored according to the preserved sources and aesthetic practices of the 18th century.
Sub olea pacis et palma virtutis is the most extensive and significant musical-dramatic work of J. D. Zelenka and a real highlight of the Czech Baroque. It was first played in 1723 at the coronation of Charles VI. in the Jesuit college of Klementin in Prague - and now its authentic modern performance is being born.
The project is created in cooperation with the Foundation for the History of Culture in Central Europe.
